MTG Reality Fracture Spoilers: What's Confirmed
Magic: The Gathering's next Standard set, Reality Fracture, gets its official debut stream today, September 8, on twitch.tv/magic and the Magic YouTube channel, with daily previews following until launch. Prerelease runs September 25 through October 1, the set hits MTG Arena and Magic Online on September 29, and paper release is October 2, 2026. Before the firehose opens, here is everything that has actually been confirmed by Wizards of the Coast so far: the story, the two headline mechanics, every card shown to date, the serialized chase, and the full product lineup with prices.
We will update this page as the preview season rolls on. A note on stance: we are not taking Reality Fracture pre-orders, so nothing below is a sales pitch for the set. If you want to play Magic in the meantime, the Foundations and Strixhaven products at the bottom are in stock today.
The story: Jace builds a better Multiverse
Reality Fracture is the climax of the Jace Beleren arc that has been building since Duskmourn. Jace, now calling himself the Theorist, has constructed the Echoverse: a reproduction of every plane in the Multiverse with Nicol Bolas, the Phyrexians and the Eldrazi edited out of history. It is a perfected copy, and Jace intends to keep it that way. Chandra Nalaar leads the resistance against it.
Mechanically, that premise gives the set its identity. Nearly every familiar face exists twice: the version we know, and an Echoverse version whose life took a different turn. That is where echoed pairs come from.
The Theorist, Jace Beleren
The face of the set is a four-mana blue planeswalker with a passive that draws you a card at the beginning of each opponent's draw step. His +1 makes a 1/1 Illusion, and his −2 bounces up to one artifact or creature per opponent. In a two-player game that is a Phyrexian Arena that also protects itself; in Commander it is a card every turn around the table. Expect The Theorist to be the most-opened mythic in the set and the first Reality Fracture card to show up in Standard lists.
Mechanic one: Prepared returns from Strixhaven
Prepared is back from Secrets of Strixhaven. A prepared card is a creature with an instant or sorcery attached to it. While the creature is prepared, you may cast a copy of that spell, and doing so unprepares it. Different cards prepare in different ways, and the confirmed examples show the range:
- Prudent Fateseer // Peer Review enters prepared, so it arrives ready to cast Peer Review for a 2/2 Cadet token and a surveil whenever you have the mana.
- Paradox Shaper // Omit Variables becomes prepared again at the beginning of each of your upkeeps, so its mill-three sorcery is repeatable every turn.
- Bloodline Recollector // Ancestral Craving only becomes prepared at end of turn if three or more creatures died that turn. More on that one below.
Prepared cards are the hybrid-mana uncommons of the set (white-blue, blue-black, black-red, red-green, green-white), which tells you they are the Limited signposts for each two-color pair.
Mechanic two: echoed pairs in every pack
Echoed pairs are a bonus sheet of paired legendary cards: the Multiverse version of a character and its Echoverse counterpart. Wizards has confirmed that every Play Booster and every Collector Booster contains an echoed pair, with Play Boosters carrying three echoed-pair cards including two from the same pair. The pairs shown so far are the reason previews have been so much fun:

Note that these are not simple color-shifted reprints. Each pair is two different cards with different rules text, and the Echoverse versions are as playable as the originals. Chill of Compliance in particular has already caught the eye of Commander players who want a blue walker that ramps into noncreature spells.
The serialized chase: Bloodline Recollector
There has been a lot of loose talk online about "Power Nine reprints" in this set. That is not what is happening. Reality Fracture has exactly one serialized card, and it is a brand-new design that riffs on an old one. Bloodline Recollector is a two-mana Vampire Warlock whose attached spell, Ancestral Craving, costs a single black mana and reads: target player draws three cards and loses 3 life. That is Ancestral Recall's text with a life-loss tax, and it is only castable while the Recollector is prepared, which requires three or more creatures to have died in a turn.
The chase version is a serialized, double rainbow foil printing limited to 500 numbered copies across all languages, found only in Collector Boosters. The regular mythic is illustrated by Cynthia Sheppard; the serialized version carries new art by Mark Poole, the artist behind the original Ancestral Recall. If you are opening Collector Boosters for one card, this is the card.
Every other card confirmed so far
As of the morning of the debut stream, 26 distinct Reality Fracture cards are on Scryfall. Beyond the walkers and pairs above:
- Craterclaw Colossus (mythic, 4RRR artifact creature): haste, and on entry your creatures gain trample and +X/+0 where X is your artifact count. A finisher for artifact decks with a borderless treatment already shown.
- Enlightened Confidant (mythic, 1W): a two-drop lifelinker that surveils at end step if you gained life and can put a cheap surveiled card straight into your hand. Bant lifegain's new best friend.
- Stingcaster Mage (mythic, 1R): haste, and on entry gives an instant or sorcery in your graveyard flashback for its mana cost. Snapcaster's aggressive cousin.
- Solitary Cell (rare, RW artifact): a Boros Oblivion Ring for cheap permanents that also cycles legendary cards into draws.
- A cycle of "choose one" modal spells at common and uncommon: Compel Brutality, Charge the Sanctum, Perfected Theory. Modal instants look like the set's Limited glue.
- Generous Revival and Cast Away Doubt, both graveyard and card-draw pieces that support the Prepared plan.

Two things stand out. First, there is only one Reality Fracture Commander deck, which is why the five mono-color Foundations Commander Decks release the same day. They are entry-level 100-card decks built on the Foundations card pool, priced to be the cheapest way into the format Wizards has offered in years. Second, the Secret Lair Bundle is reported by retailers for October 23, three weeks after the set, while Wizards' own pages still list it only as coming with the release; either way, do not count on it at prerelease.

When does Reality Fracture come out?
Paper release is October 2, 2026. Prerelease events run September 25 through October 1, and the set arrives on MTG Arena and Magic Online on September 29. The debut stream that kicks off preview season is September 8.
Does Reality Fracture reprint the Power Nine?
No. The set has one serialized card, Bloodline Recollector, whose attached spell Ancestral Craving is a new design modeled on Ancestral Recall. It is not a reprint of any Power Nine card, and no Power Nine reprints have been announced.
What is an echoed pair?
A bonus sheet of paired legendary cards showing a character from the Multiverse alongside its alternate Echoverse self, such as Chandra, Torch of Defiance and Chandra, Chill of Compliance. Every Play Booster and Collector Booster contains at least one echoed pair.
